Of course hardcore LoL and DotA players and fans globally would disagree on me with this. Don’t worry, I won’t argue with you if you think less than my opinion.
I’ve been playing HoN for more than a year now, not to mentioned that I also tried and enjoyed playing LoL and the most famous DotA including its sequel DotA 2, But I’ved decided that HoN is the best among the three titles, well not in everything but the game experience itself. I’m more comfortable with it, has a great graphics and wide selection of original set of heroes. Moving on to the news. Is the patch really that awesome?
Why HoN 3.0 Patch is Awesome?
Better Graphics from Heroes to the Map, Textures and Towers
As I have said, I really liked the graphics. And the patch make it even better. They’ve bumped the appearance of adding more texture and produce it to HD on their 30 classic heroes including Pebbles, Madman, Bloodhunter and Moon Queen to name a few. They also added new elements and animations without affecting gameplay itself, in short they intended this HD graphics update just to make the environment more alive and better looking. Towers now have specific models and animations depending on their locations, that as you progress thru the lane, also depending on what team you are in, you’ll notice that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tower don’t look the same.

Practice with Artificial Intelligence
More awesome is that they have added more features for players and new players a like to be able to enjoy and experience the game further. This includes the feature where you can play with BOTS / AI to practice your skills. They mentioned that they will going to release the source code of the BOTS that can be modified by the HoN community itself to make improvements and alterations.

Learn and Enhance your Skills with Learnatorium
They also added video walk-throughs which they call as the Learnatorium. Both old timers and newbies can get something from this. From the most basic stuff like proper laning and jungling and advance tips for season players as well. The approach of this tutorials is more like watch and learn and not the typical reading of guides that is already provided in game. And since you can play with bots/ai now, practicing won’t be that hard.

Report a Player and Refer a Friend
This is one of the greatest feature they’ve released in this patch. Why? Well I’mspecifically speaking about the Report a Player. A lot of gamers on HoN is an a-hole. That sometimes no matter how good you are, If you’ve been matched and teamed-up with an a-hole. Your chances of winning is going to be very low. With this feature, you can report this kind of players even the trash talkers out there! Refer a Friend is more like recruitment system, both of you will gain ingame gold or silvers or if your lucky some premium giveaways or trip to Las Vegas!

I’m not really sure how will this affect the game or the game experience, But they’ve improved the Lore. Improving the background stories of the Heroes making connections on other heroes like how Hellbringer and Dr. Repulsor created Lodestone.
